An Afternoon Remembered

For that afternoon, I
would give everything.
When life was so acute, rain
drops weren't unnoticed,
and my shoulders sagged
only a little
under the weight of sorrow.

Equality of smile wasn't equal
with tears, and you held gently
the heart I'd given,
against artillery, judgment,
and other's reasons.

You see, I love you so
determinedly,
that life refused of itself
garnishment of any other
soul.

You were mine, and I
was yours.
