Women's Conference = Women Fun!

The girls ventured down to the LDS Women's Conference for a fun-filled day. We listened to Sister Julie Beck, and one other speaker. Then, fundamentally oblivious to anything but fun, we ate lunch, ice cream, chocolate mint brownies, drank low-calorie drinks (even out that carb intake!). We skipped all ensuing classes and laughed until my stomach HURT. Then, a little trip to the Museum of Art and we were headed home, laughing-sore, full of joy, and a little more full of sugar. I couldn't have any more fun than I do with my girls.

Sister Julie B. Beck's talk included some fundamental points, as outlined below. Read on, all those interested in the key to eternal life!

• Rebekah's Legacy: Rebekah of the Old Testament is one of the mother's of Israel. She was true to "all" the commands of the Lord. Consequently, the children of Israel came forth with the attendant blessings and covenants. We need to strive to be like Rebekah, because an entire generation, potentially the entire world depend on our righteousness. This train of thought reminded me of my own mother, who said her decisions were ruled by the thought of her children, even before she was married or had any children.

"We know that as women of God, this is a time that we need an increase in of faith and personal righteousness."

• Prioritize: She recommended categorizing our duties into three categories: 1. essential; 2. necessary; 3. nice-to-do. In her essential category she put things such as scripture study, prayer, temple attendance, etc. Interestingly, they were 95% personal things. In her necessary category were family meals and taking the kids to school. She mentioned that frequently when her 1. and 2. are filled, she still has time for the nice-to-do's.

"When our priorities are out of order, we lose power."

• Lioness at the Gate: Women should be a lioness at the gate of their own home. It is their duty to guard the sanctity and security of what enters and leaves. The lioness protects her cubs with vigor, love, and righteousness.

"Taking care of our posterity takes precedence of all other things."
