Atonement

I have been studying the Atonment, the sacrifice performed by our elder brother Jesus Christ on our behalf, to allow redemption of our souls from Hell.  Although not developed nor particularly strung together, below are some interesting and proving quotes concerning both the Atonement and the effects of the Atonement I've compiled in my study.

"The nearer man approaches perfection, the clearer are his view, and the greater his enjoyment, till he has overcome the evils of his life and lost every desire for sin; and, like the ancients, [he] arrives at that point of faith where he is wrapped in the power and glory of his Maker and is caught up to dwell with Him.  But we consider that this is a station to which no man ever arrived in a moment."
Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, page 51

"Because Jesus was brilliant beyond our comprehension, he knew even premortally, though intellectually, what he was volunteering to do.  Yet he had to experience it all personally- especially the awful agony of Gethsemane and Calvary."
Neal A. Maxwell, BYU Devotional

"He instituted the sacrament as a reminder of his great atoning sacrifice.  he was arrested and condemned on spurious charges, convicted to satisfy a mob, and sentenced to die on Calvary's cross.  He gave his life to atone for the sins of all mankind.  He was a great vicarious gift in behalf of all who would ever live upon the earth.

We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary.  He was the firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world."
The Living Christ, First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

"From the time of Adam to the death of Jesus Christ, true believeres were instructed to offer animal sacrifices to the Lord.  These sacrifices were symbolic of the forthcoming of Jesus Chris, and were done by faith in Him."
LDS Bible Dictionary, pg. 617

Covenant derived from the days of Enoch

  1. Land given to seed forever
  2. Seed as the dust of the earth
  3. Make of thee a great nation
  4. Bless thee
  5. Make thy name great
  6. Thou shalt be a blessing
  7. Bless them that bless thee and curse those that curse thee
  8. In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed (Great Patriarch)
Genesis 14:4, "Remember the covenant which I make with thee... (italics added)"  Notice that the covenant-making is present tense because the covenant is being transacted
