Reconciliation

For moments, I've fallen
from grace in the possession of
hopeful
expectations, laying
impounded on my heart
and lungs, without recompense.

For what is hope but the
living for unified heart
beats and double tears
at a single moment? The
waking-up moments
when sunshine is the face
one pillow over,
and one inch closer?

Yet honesty in hope overrides
expectations, and the byproduct
of hopes dashed is
faith
in the existence of hope. It's
the waking up and dreaming
of sunshine in a dark room,
feeling warmth against
locked doors, the tomorrows
of expectations more hopeful
than those to which I
could aspire today.

So journeying forward,
awash
in honesty of life and hope,
I make my progress, one
determined step at a time,
with my face in the direction
of sunshine, and moving
on faith.
