A Gathering of Joy: Steve and Mindy's Wedding

Steve and Mindy were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Saturday, July 26, 2008! Here is a recollection of some of the events.

Bridal Shower
We met with the wives of Mindy's five brothers (she's an only girl) and her extended family.
Wedding Preparation
The reception was held at our home, and we were up almost all night the day before the wedding working on preparations. We did put Steve to bed, though :). Consequently, we had a rush to the temple ceremony... love you Dad!







Lion House Brunch
We all met together as close family and friends for the wedding brunch held at the Lion House. It was hosted as an 'open mic' event where people were encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings about Steve and Mindy. Here Steve and Mindy close by singing a hymn to us.

This was the most special portion of
the wedding festivities for me. The true characters of Steve and Mindy were distilled by family and friends: service, compassion, joy, perseverance, and long suffering. We've each been served and touched by Steve and Mindy: We LOVE you!







The Wedding
Steve and Mindy were sealed for time and eternity in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple. I helped care for the many nieces and nephews during the ceremony, in addition to running a few little errands- most notably having Steve's tux altered.

Watching Steve's and Mindy's emotions after their marriage was a peculiarly special experience. They were full of a dedication to each other that I have rarely seen paralleled. I have never seen Steve so gentle in action and eye-stares toward someone before. It for me was the epitome of 'love.'

The Reception
The reception was held in our home and yard. The girls played in a quartet while Joe played background music for the wedding line. There was a jazz band in the yard, and a 'kids' room downstairs full of over 20 children.

All four girls took violin lessons from Jeanne Grover growing up, and we stopped playing our quartet music in unison when she showed up on the stairs. She joined us as our honorary first violin and led us in the Pachabel Cannon processional.


After the flower toss and cutting of the cake we assembled for the 'dancing.' After the first dances of the bride and groom, everyone gathered and sang along to Mindy's favorite songs. It was just like our family dancing on those Friday nights to the music of movie credits at one in the morning. Even Grandma and Grandpa joined it :).

The Next Day...
We don't have record of Steve and Mindy, but were delighted to spend time with extended family from Arizona and California. Grandma taught us how to crochet rings, and Ken and Kim made us green chili with authentic roasted peppers :).
